Coziest cabins from coast to coast

Jane Reynolds
Oyster.com

Now that the wind has picked up that wintry chill and the days have gotten shorter, cozy cabins -- nestled among the country's most gorgeous mountains and alongside picturesque lakes -- beckon. Instead of the airy beachfront huts and jungle-surrounded tree houses we sought out this summer, we look forward to snuggling up in log cabins and lodges. And fortunately throughout our travels, we've found quite a few. From log cabin-themed suites in Vermont to luxurious cliff-side cabins in Wyoming, these are Oyster.com's picks for the country's 10 coziest cabin accommodations.

Spring Creek Ranch
Jackson Hole, Wyo.
Set in a wildlife refuge more than 700 feet above the Jackson Valley, the Spring Creek Ranch has arguably the most stunning views of the Tetons in the area. It has a wide array of room categories, from standard hotel rooms to immense two-bedroom cabins. While some cabins are ultra-luxurious in every possible way, others are plain and come with more basic amenities. The delicious, popular restaurant and the excellent heated outdoor pool are not to be missed.

Chalet Village
Gatlinburg, Tenn.
The rustic Chalet Village consists of private cabins in the gorgeous foothills of the Smoky Mountains. Close to ski resorts, golf courses and hiking trails as well as attractions like Dollywood, these cabins allow guests to comfortably stay in or go out and enjoy what Gatlinburg and the nearby towns have to offer. Ranging from one to eight bedrooms, all units are differently styled but remain consistent in their charming, cozy feel (although some find it a bit kitschy). This property is NEW on Oyster.com!

El Capitan Canyon
Santa Barbara, Calif.
Twenty miles north of Santa Barbara, situated on 300 acres of canyon wilderness, El Capitan Canyon offers a camping, or "glamping," experience with enough modern conveniences to satisfy travelers who would rather just semi-rough it. Guests stay in cabins, tents or yurts; cabins are certainly the most luxe options. The Safari Cabin comes complete with a modern kitchen, outdoor shower and expansive patio with breathtaking views.

The Peaks See Forever Rentals
Telluride, Colo.
The Peaks See Forever Rentals in Mountain Village offers great luxury accommodations for groups and families, including stand-alone cabin rentals and two- to four-bedroom condo units. Cabins include lovely, lodge-like decor (wood-beamed ceilings, stone fireplaces, leather accents), modern kitchens and gorgeous bathrooms with soaking tubs. Guests can access facilities at the neighboring sister property, Peaks Resort & Spa, including restaurants, a fitness center, a spa with 32 treatment rooms and two pools -- but expect to pay a hefty resort fee.

Adventure Suites
North Conway, N.H.
Adventure Suites is a truly one-of-a-kind upscale property. All of the hotel's 17 suites are unique, and completely decked out according to their themes. The Log Cabin Suite truly looks like a log cabin, with wooden accents throughout, antlers adorning the walls, and a faux bearskin throw on the bed. All suites come with a hot tub. Outdoor winter activities include sledding, and the hotel serves a free breakfast daily. This property is NEW on Oyster.com!

Evergreen Lodge at Yosemite
Yosemite National Park, Calif.
Evergreen Lodge is a 22-acre cabin resort surrounded by Stanislaus National Forest, about one mile from Yosemite National Park's western border. The 90 cabins come in different sizes -- some perfect for newlyweds, others great for a large family -- and are rustic, cozy and comfortable with large private decks. It's a great spot for nature lovers who want to be disconnected from the world for a bit (there are no phones or TVs in cabins) and enjoy the serenity of the surrounding pine trees instead.

Lakedale Resort at Three Lakes
San Juan Island, Wash.
The Lakedale Resort is not your grandfather's campground. In addition to a lakefront location with picnic spots, this 82-acre property offers everything from an airstream trailer to canvas cabins to a quaint, standalone cabin that features bedrooms upstairs, and a kitchen and sitting room – with a fireplace – below. The property is best suited for visitors looking for an upscale camping experience, although poor cell phone reception may be a nuisance for some.

The Pitcher Inn
Warren, Vt.
From the outside the Pitcher Inn might appear like a typical New England B&B, but once inside, the quality and character of this property is revealed. All 11 rooms and suites are individually decorated according to a different theme -- such as mountain, ski or trout. While all rooms have a cabin-like vibe, the Ski Room in particular plays the part. It features a wood-burning fireplace, wood-beamed ceilings and a rustic kitchen, complete with a picnic table.

Timber Tops Luxury Cabin Rentals
Sevierville, Tenn.
Timber Tops consists of a variety of secluded cabins located in the woods near the Smoky Mountains, but not too far away from popular tourist destinations. The accommodations here are true cabins, with logs notched and overlapping at the structure's corners. Inside, knotted wood plans are everywhere -- the ceilings, the walls, the stair bannisters. The fireplaces have stone surrounds. Each cabin has its own unique characteristics, but most have large, wraparound balconies with outdoor furniture and sweeping views of the Smoky Mountains. Franciscan Lakeside Lodge
Lake Tahoe, Calif.
Located on the shores of Lake Tahoe, the mid-range Franciscan Lakeside Lodge features cozy cabins and rooms in a woodsy, lakefront setting. While some rooms are tucked across the street from the lake in a darker, tree-covered area, the lakefront cabins have excellent views and open to the sandy beach and a private pier where guests can swim and play in privacy. Kitchenettes make dining in (and saving money) easy.
