Which stores are closed on Thanksgiving?

Costco will be closed on Thanksgiving.

Not all retailers are following a recent trend of opening their doors on Thanksgiving Day.

A number of retailers are saying they are staying closed so their employees can enjoy the holiday.

"As in past years, T.J.Maxx and Marshalls stores will be closed on Thanksgiving so our Associates can enjoy the holiday with family and friends," the discount retailer announced in a press release.

Costco, the second-largest retailer in the country after Walmart, will also remain closed.

"It's an important holiday in the U.S., and our employees work hard during the holiday season, and we believe they deserve the opportunity to spend Thanksgiving Day with their family and friends," Richard A. Galanti, executive vice president and chief financial officer at Costco Wholesale, told The New York Times. The company has always remained closed on Thanksgiving day, he said.

Home Depot likewise will be closed. The company tweeted to its followers, "Take time to enjoy food, family and friends, and we'll see you early Friday morning!"

Here's a list of other stores that will not be open on Thanksgiving, according to news reports and company statements:

Ace Hardware

Barnes & Noble

Patagonia

Dillard's

Crate and Barrel

Neiman Marcus

GameStop

Nordstrom

Bed Bath & Beyond

Burlington Coat Factory

REI

However, some stores are moving Black Friday up to begin on turkey day.

Kmart, for example, will open at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving and remain open to shoppers for "42 hours straight." And J.C. Penney will open at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving, the company tweeted, which is three hours earlier than last year.

Shoppers can head to Macy's on Thanksgiving as well, with doors opening at 6 p.m. That's two hours earlier than the year before.
