Holland America plans another epic cruise to Asia

Explore the land of the Vikings and the Midnight Sun in traditional style onboard Holland America Line's 1,404-passenger Rotterdam.

Holland America has unveiled plans for another epic cruise from Europe to Asia and back.

The 90-day Passage to the Far East sailing on the 1,404-passenger Rotterdam will kick off in Rotterdam, The Netherlands on Jan. 7, 2015 and include calls at 36 ports in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Following a route the line has offered in the past, the Rotterdam will sail along the West Coast of Europe to the Mediterranean before passing through the Suez Canal to the Middle East, India and Southeast Asia. From there, it'll return via a similar route in reverse, albeit with a new set of port calls.

Highlights of the trip include multiple stops in India and Myanmar, and a string of seven calls in Indonesia. Sri Lanka also is on the schedule as is Malaysia. The sailing ends April 7, 2015 back in Rotterdam.

Segments of the voyage that are 34 and 55 days in length also are available. Fares for the complete 90-day journey start at $10,999 per person, based on double occupancy. The 34- and 55-day segments start at $4,399 and $7,199, respectively.

The Rotterdam is one of two ships Holland America is sending to Asia for the 2014-2015 winter season. Also heading to the region is the 1,432-passenger Volendam, which will offer departures out of Singapore, Hong Kong and Kobe, Japan.
