Here's how to make the official drink of the Belmont Stakes

Centerplate Belmont Belmont Jewel

Even if you aren’t one of the more than 100,000 fans heading to Long Island to watch California Chrome’s quest for a Triple Crown at the Belmont Stakes Saturday, you can still easily make the race’s official cocktail at home.

The Kentucky Derby has always had the mint julep and the Preakness has The Black-Eyed Susan, but the Belmont now has its own signature drink, the Belmont Jewel.

“It was developed specifically to embody the Triple Crown itself,” Pat Bruhn, Sr. VP of operations at Centerplate, the company that runs the concessions at Belmont Park, told For The Win. “The Stakes is known as the crown jewel of racing, so what better way to celebrate than with the Belmont Jewel. It was created a couple years ago to replace the Belmont Breeze.”

While the cocktails at the race itself will be served in an original “winner’s highball glass” specific to the event, any old tumbler should work to pair with your viewing party.

The Recipe:
1.5 ounces of bourbon (Belmont uses Knob Creek)
2 ounces of lemonade
1 ounce pomegranate juice

Shake vigorously with ice and serve in a rocks glass over ice. Garnish with a lemon twist or red cherry.
