KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Giants outfielder Hunter Pence famously rides an electric scooter to home games at AT&T Park in San Francisco. His unusual vehicle was honored on a bobblehead doll and became the subject of an area-wide search in May after it went missing from outside a local restaurant.

After only a few days, Pence’s scooter was returned unharmed. But in the interim, he bought a new one, leaving him with one more scooter than he needs for his daily commute.

“I’m still riding the scooter, I just have two now,” Pence said Monday.

So Pence, whose Giants will open the 2014 World Series against the Royals on Tuesday, will sell the extra scooter for charity.

“I had so much support in getting in back,” Pence said. “I just felt like because of that support, I should use that scooter for a good cause.

“I’m going to hopefully raise money for Make-A-Wish.”

Pence signed a contract extension with the Giants in September, 2013 that will keep him in San Francisco through the end of the 2018 season, and he has no plans to ditch the scooter to drive or take public transit to home games.

“It’s a really enjoyable thing to ride to the field,” he said.

(An earlier version of this story said the scooter went missing from the Giants’ clubhouse. The San Jose Mercury News reported in May that it was stolen from outside Epic Roasthouse near AT&T Park.)
