Former St. Louis Rams center Jason Brown made news recently for his decision to quit football, bought a farm, and now grows crops to feed the hungry.

On Wednesday, Brown got people’s attention once more, this time for delivering his newborn son. Brown’s wife, Tay, went into labor before assistance could arrive. So, Brown and his wife had no choice but to deliver on their own.

“It was an incredible experience,” Brown told the The News Observer. “It was unbelievable.”

The couple successfully delivered an 8-pound, 9-ounce baby boy named Lunsford Bernard Brown III in honor of Brown’s older brother who was killed in Afghanistan.

“Delivering Tre was a surprise,” Brown said. “My wife and I were one praying couple.”

Brown played seven years in the NFL with the Rams and Baltimore Ravens. After the 2011 season, he decided to leave football and purchased a 1,000-acre farm in North Carolina. He now partners with several charitable organizations and distributed 10,000 pounds of cucumbers and 100,000 pounds of sweet potatoes to feed the needy.
