Aqib Talib fined $26K for taunting and facemask penalties

Aqib Talib’s penalties didn’t cost the Denver Broncos the Super Bowl. But they did cost him a portion of his paycheck.

Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib pulls Panthers wide receiver Corey Brown out of bounds in the second quarter of Super Bowl 50.

The NFL fined Talib $26,044 total for two infractions — a taunting penalty and a brutal facemask on Carolina Panthers receiver Corey Brown — in the first half of the Broncos’ 24-10 triumph.

The taunting call could’ve been particularly costly, since it came after a sack on third-and-8, giving the Panthers a first down, but they ended up punting. The facemask came at the Broncos’ 2-yard line, yielding a net loss of 1 yard. Talib also was penalized for being offside on the ensuing extra point.

Broncos players received $102,000 each for the Super Bowl win.

It’s not the first time the league has come down on Talib, 29, this season. He was suspended one game for poking Indianapolis Colts tight end Dwayne Allen in the eye during another penalty meltdown in November, costing him a game check worth $323,529.
