David Robinson's son, Notre Dame's top WR, elected student-body president

Corey Robinson — Notre Dame’s top wide receiver and son of NBA Hall of Famer David Robinson — was elected Notre Dame student body president this week.

Robinson, a junior liberal studies major with minors in sustainability and business economics, and his running mate — sophomore Rebecca Blais, who will be vice president — beat out two other tickets to win the election and will take office April 1, the student newspaper The Observer first reported.

Robinson and Blais ran on a platform of evaluating “existing Title IX policies procedures both on campus and abroad and encourage the transparency of university sexual assault data and statistics,” and strengthening resources if a student is sexually assaulted, which is a well-known problem at universities around the country. For example, they want to have a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, who is trained to administer rape kits at St. Liam’s so students don’t have to go off campus, and implement the “Companion” app to promote student safety.

Robinson has caught 65 passes for 896 yards and seven touchdowns in two years at Notre Dame, and is the Fighting Irish’s leading returning receiver this season.

Leading up tho the election, Robinson received some high-profile endorsements from professional athletes like his father’s former San Antonio Spurs teammates Tony Parker and Tim Duncan, Jon Bon Jovi, whose son is a walkon at Notre Dame, and recently retired  NFL defensive end and Notre Dame alum Justin Tuck, who all made a campaign video in support of Robinson.

His father, David, was asked about his son on ESPN’s Mike & Mike on Thursday morning.

“I’m very proud of him,” Robinson said. “The only surprising thing to me is how he finds the time to do everything he does. … Last semester he wrote an album, he was performing music, he and a friend started up a non-profit that the NCAA Division I has now adopted as one of their non-profits.

“I don’t know where he finds the time to do all this stuff, but he’s pretty amazing.”
