Trump to open D.C. hotel before presidential election
It’s unclear if Washington, D.C., will get a Trump in the White House, but at the very least, it will get a Trump International Hotel by September.
The historic Old Post Office building has been in renovations to become a Trump hotel for years. Its opening date has now been pushed up to this fall, two years ahead of schedule, and just in time for the presidential election. Donald Trump is a leading Republican party candidate.
Trump International Hotel, Washington, D.C., is scheduled to open in September 2016 on Pennsylvania Avenue, just a few blocks from the U.S. Capitol building and the White House.
The Trump Organization has spent years transforming the 19th century building into a luxury hotel, keeping the original stonework, wood milling and paneling. The hotel will have 263 rooms and suites. There will be a 6,300-square-foot Trump Townhouse with a private entrance on Pennsylvania Avenue.
“For decades people have looked in wonderment at the magnificence of the Old Post Office building and structure,” Donald J. Trump said in a written statement. “There is nothing like it and we are so proud.”
Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, has been a leading figure in the development of the property,
“It has been an incredible journey transforming the Old Post Office into what will be the finest luxury hotel in the country—if not the world,” she says.
