Storm clouds rolling over Boston on Sept. 6.

Today's top picks start with Matt O'Brien's Boston photo of the clouds rolling in on Sept. 6. "I waited and waited for it to get darker and darker, and as I looked upon the city skyline, I saw this storm cloud."

Jon Sham's view of the sky was far less omnious, with a silhouetted ancient redwoods at the Muir Woods National Monument in Mill Valley, Calif.

Back in a more urban terrain, contributor Andrew B eneke captured the Chicago sunset near Adler Planetarium on Lakefront Trail.

USA TODAY reporter Trevor Hughes snapped a photo of a horse in the mist Sept. 7, as the sun hit the top of Mount Gothic in Crested Butte, Colo.

"A horse stands still in a mist-covered field in Crested Butte, Colo. as the sun hits the top of Mt. Gothic."

Contributor Julie Wynn was surprised to see a fireworks show on the Dillingham Street Bridge in Phenix City, Ala. "We were just in the right place at the right time."

"We had no idea there were going to be fireworks that night."
