Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story wrongfully identified the newspaper where this quote originally appeared. We regret the error.

In a quote that seems either tongue-in-cheek or totally flabbergasting, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Kevin Martin said on Monday that he had just learned former teammate Kevin Love had been traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Love’s deal couldn’t officially be done until August 23 because of NBA rules, but it was widely reported in early August that the deal was happening. On top of that, the Timberwolves have made a huge marketing campaign out of its new star Andrew Wiggins since the trade. Did Martin just think the number-one overall pick was gifted to the Timberwolves?

From Jerry Zgoda’s article in the Star-Tribune:

“I didn’t know Kevin Love got traded until yesterday,” Martin said with a straight face at Monday’s annual media day at Target Center that preceded a midnight start to training camp in Mankato. “I’m not big on looking at blogs and all that.”

Blogs? How about texting with other NBA players? How about watching, I don’t know, any sports network on TV any day in the month of August? How about talking to your coaches about how the team’s best player is no longer on the team?

He has to have been kidding. I refuse to believe he was serious.

UPDATE: He was kidding.
