Lorde gets 'Mockingjay' single
Lorde will have the first single for the upcoming The Hunger Games: MockingJay - Part 1, and she'll also curate the companion album for the film.
"Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance," the 17-year-old singer/songwriter said in a news release. "The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people."
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, the third film in the Hunger Games series, will open worldwide Nov. 21. The soundtrack album also will be out this fall.
Taylor Swift and Civil Wars' Grammy-winning Safe & Sound was the lead single for the first Hunger Games film, and Coldplay's Atlas introduced last year's soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Lorde is slated to perform Friday at Lollapalooza in Chicago. She'll launch a U.S. tour Sept. 5 in Philadelphia.
