What Kylie Jenner's (sold-out) 'lip kit' looks like on a normal person

Kylie Jenner models her True Brown Lip Kit color, left, and I test it out, right.

If you wanted to get lips like Kylie Jenner, you're going to have to try again around Christmastime.

The reality TV personality and social media celebrity (she has 43.6 million followers on Instagram) just unveiled her new "Lip Kit" today ($29 per Kit), and it sold out. Because every lipstick she wears sells out.

Fortunately, we got to meet up with Jenner in person at her Kylie Lip Kit event in the Los Angeles Dash store, and she showed us the goods that crashed her website.

Here she is, presenting liner and lipstick (that's what makes a "Kit"):

She let us take one home:

She also gave us tips for how to use the Kit if you don't have full lips:

"I don't think lip plumpers work, but you can over-line your lips a little bit. And I like to use a sugarscrub and a moisturizer before, while I do the rest of my makeup."

So, we lined and lip-sticked, as advised, in the color True Brown:

It went... OK.

The liner went on very easy, like a crayon. The "liquid lipstick," as it's called, was more like a gloss with a sponge-tipped applicator. It tasted pretty good. Like chocolate. It achieved that Kylie-esque matte-lip look that I think I was going for. So that was pretty successful.

However, the brown color was not for me (she also has two other lip colors, and expects to release even more makeup down the road), and the lipstick kinda crumbled up and peeled off after only a few minutes. Maybe it was because I was drinking a smoothie out of a straw? I probably needed to apply Chapstick, as Jenner had recommended, to keep my lips from drying out.

But the Lip Kit was perfect for Instagram selfies.
