EL SEGUNDO, Calif. ― Black Friday online sales have started out strong, at $500 million by mid-day Thursday, reports Adobe.

The company, which tracks sales from 4500 websites, says online sales were dominated by mobile shopping, with phones and tablets driving over 50% of traffic.

Black Friday shoppers at a Best Buy in El Segundo, California, wait for the store to open.

"Average discounts of 23 percent are two percent less than last year's 25 percent, but prices are expected to continually drop as more Black Friday sales come online," says Tamara Gaffney, an analyst with the Adobe Digital index.

Adobe tracked sales from midnight to 11 a.m. ET Thursday morning, and found that sales were up by $100 million from the same period last year.

The firm expects the hottest products today to be Samsung 4K TVs, the Sony PlayStaton 4 and Xbox One video game consoles and the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.

Steve Diab of Carson, California says he always saves big money on Black Friday.

Steve Diab of Carson, California, camped outside a Los Angeles area Best Buy all night, hoping to nab one of the 50 inch TV's from Toshiba that was being advertised as a door buster special. He figures he'll save $250 on the TV, but, "I'm buying cellphones and videogames too, so it's worth it."
