Ford's 50th anniversary Mustang looks like original

NEW YORK — A special edition of the 2015 Ford Mustang was unveiled Wednesday to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the pony car at the New York International Auto Show.

The special Mustang, made to incorporate many of the styling cues of the 1960s original, was driven on stage at the New York Auto Show by Bill Ford, great-grandson of founder Henry Ford and the company's executive chairman.

"It is an extremely limited edition, for our most diehard enthusiasts," said Ford, who drove a "Wimbledon white" Mustang onto the stage here at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

Ford will only build 1,964 of the car, making it a very exclusive version that will be in high demand by collectors.

Ford unveiled the first Mustang 50 years ago in New York at the 1964 World's Fair.

"The Mustang is a symbol of where Ford has been and it's a vision of where we are going," Ford said.

Based on the all-new 2015 Mustang GT fastback, the 50 Year Limited Edition is designed to provide customers with enhanced performance and a unique appearance that will be instantly recognizable on the road.

The only options for the 50 Year Limited Edition are the choice of two exclusive colors and a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
