NFL draft diary: 'Hungry' Keith Price out to prove doubters wrong

Keith Price threw 21 touchdowns in 2013, leading Washington a 9-4 season.

USA TODAY Sports recruited 11 prospects to chronicle their journey to the NFL Draft. Today's entry is from Washington quarterback Keith Price, who passed for 8,919 yards and 75 touchdowns over four college seasons.

I ran some bleachers today and then I went out and threw the ball around with my private quarterback coach, Steve Calhoun. It was hot out there, boy, I'll tell you. But it's easy. It's easy anytime you're doing something that you love. I'm not working a 9-to-5. This is my job, is to get better and perfect my craft. It's easy getting up on a day like this and going to get your work done.

I thought I did well at my pro day. I displayed the arm strength that people doubted me on. I thought my feet were good. Overall, I threw the ball well. That "DON'T DOUBT ME" hat I wore was the perfect thing to describe my career thoroughly. One of my boys gave me the idea and I ran with it. I actually went back up to Seattle a couple weeks ago and did their local combine. It was a business trip for me – I wasn't there no longer than 20 hours.

I'm hungry, man. I didn't need to be highly recruited out of high school, I didn't need a lot of publicity in college and I didn't need the combine. One of my mottos is compete every day, because you don't know when your last snap is. I love competition. I embrace it. And whatever team I'm lucky enough to play for, I'm going to work relentlessly. It's not just going to be a one-time thing. It's going to be a consistent thing. If I'm given that opportunity – when I'm given that opportunity – I'm going to take advantage of it.

I'll be at my grandmother's house in Long Beach or my house in Compton for the draft. I'm probably going to catch all of it. I'm for sure going to get some workouts in during those days, just to relieve the stress. It's kind of hard seeing people go in front of you, especially because I feel I'm the best. Anytime your name is not called and you see other quarterbacks going in front of you, it kind of ticks you off a little bit.

It's fuel, but I'm self-driven. I'm self-motivated. Of course, I feel that I'm better. But that's not something that's going to make me a better or a worse player. So, I'm just taking it all in. It's a belief in yourself. I'm not a cocky person – I'm a confident person. I'm confident in my abilities, and I'm confident with the intangibles that I bring to a team. I play the game with a passion and a chip that not a lot of people play with, and I think that I have a lot that I could provide to a team.

Until then, I'll be working out. I know rookie minicamp is right around the corner, so I can't come in there out of shape. Man, I'm so ready. I've been grinding all the way. I dedicated my whole time and all of my efforts to finally get to this point. It's a privilege to the play in the NFL, and I won't take it for granted. My family's excited, I'm excited and I just can't wait to get on an NFL roster.
