'Game of Thrones': 3 things to know

Major spoilers ahead.

This season's second episode ended with another bloody wedding.

But unlike the massacre of the beloved Starks at the Red Wedding last season, this murder spelled the end to the cruel reign of an evil king.

1. The king is dead

Joffrey Baratheon is murdered at his own wedding feast. After his nuptials to Margaery Tyrell, he is poisoned at the extravagant affair.

Joffrey spends some of his wedding day humiliating his uncle Tyrion by pouring wine over him, asking him to be his cup bearer, and requesting that Tyrion kneel as he serves wine. In an effort to distract Joffrey, Margaery calls attention to a cake for the king to cut. Doves fly and the crowd applauds.

But soon after, the king starts to choke and falls to the ground. Blood spills out of Joffrey's nose and he dies. Who killed him? Cersei Lannister blames Tyrion but it remains to be seen.

2. Shae makes her exit

Cersei Lannister decides to tell her father Tywin about Tyrion's intimate relationship with Shae, a prostitute who also is handmaiden to Tyrion's new wife Sansa Stark. Lord Varys warned Tyrion earlier in the episode their secret was out.

Since Tyrion knew Shae would never leave him, he saves her life by breaking her heart. Tyrion tells Shae their relationship must end and that she must board a ship to leave King's Landing. He goes so far to call her a "whore." Harsh, yet effective.

3. Go north

Brandon Stark, also known as Bran, knows where his gang must travel to next. The warg, who sees through the eyes of animals, has a series of visions after he touches a powerful tree.

Bran sees himself falling from a tower window -- the accident that caused his immobility. He also sees snow falling from the Iron Throne signifying that winter is coming. "Look for me, beneath the tree," a voice says. "North."
