Ellen gives $1,000 tip to Oscar pizza delivery guy

Ellen DeGeneres surprised Edgar Martirosyan with a $1,000 tip for delivering pizza to the Oscars on Sunday night. The pizzeria owner appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday, where they chatted about what went down at the Oscars:

"You thought you were going to bring them (the pizzas) to some producers? What did they tell you?" asked DeGeneres.

"Yeah, they told me I'm just going to deliver for writers and then when I was there they just told me wait here and you came out…and you said I'm going to let you know when to follow me and I was like, we're we going," said Martirosyan. "You said just follow me and I'm going then I'm on a stage… I was in shock."

"So you left before, I wanted to get you a tip and I passed Pharrell's hat around and I ended up getting around $600 something like that," said DeGeneres. "Here is some more…here is $1000. Here is a total of $1000."

A pizza delivery guy got a slice of the action Sunday at the Oscars.

Host Ellen DeGeneres ushered Edgar Martirosyan, the owner of Los Angeles chain Big Mama's and Papa's Pizzeria, through a sea of celebrities at the 86th annual Academy Awards while he handed out pizza to the likes of Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Jared Leto and Jennifer Lawrence.

Martirosyan has owned Big Mama's and Papa's for eight years and told USA TODAY he does everything, from deliveries and baking to managing 20 stores.

At the Oscars, where celebrities were decked out in designer looks, Martirosyan wore an apron, a red baseball cap and a hoodie while he handed out slices and plates.

DeGeneres jokingly asked Sandra Bullock to fork over a tip for Martirosyan, but she said she didn't have any money on her.

Then the host called out Harvey Weinstein and told him to give Martirosyan "whatever you think is right" because there were "only a billion people watching."

Pharrell Williams' infamous hat made the rounds so celebs could tip Martirosyan, who was all smiles as he navigated the Dolby Theatre. But after the pizza was safely delivered and devoured? It was straight back to work for Martirosyan, who returned to his shop.

The restaurant has the record for the world's largest deliverable pizza, something Martirosyan said he was proud of.

After making its Sunday debut on the Oscars, Big Mama's and Papa's ran out of dough and its website crashed, an employee told USA TODAY during a call to the pizza shop.

Martirosyan didn't say how much of a tip he received delivering the pizzas.
