Punchlines: Baptizing aliens?

USATODAY

Pope Francis has become known for saying some pretty unconventional things as far as popes go. He's taken heat from the right for saying wealth should be redistributed to help the poor. And he was criticized by many in the Catholic church and beyond (including the highly religious on the left) for statements that seemed to condone the gay lifestyle. But, his latest comments about baptizing martians have done something not seen in politics for years. They've brought the right and left together -- even if just for a moment to collectively scratch their heads in bewilderment. Yes, Francis said during his Monday mass that if aliens came to Earth and asked for baptism, who are we to go against God's word. A far-out analogy?

Well according to one comic, you'd have to convert them from scientology first. Another comedian implied Francis' comments must have been the result of too much communion wine.
