SAN FRANCISCO — Google on Tuesday opened up sale of its wearable Glass device to anyone in the U.S. with $1,500 to spend.

There still isn't a true consumer model of the web-connected eyewear but Google said it's decided to open up its beta "Explorer" program as long as it has the stock in hand as it continues to tweak the hardware and software.

Last month the company experimented with a brief sale of Glass, which apparently resulted in brisk sales.

The Explorer program was introduced in 2012 as a way to to get the unique wearable device into the hands of users.

Opening up sales is a way to increase feedback from purchasers "ahead of our wider consumer release," the company said in a post on its Google+ social network.
