The Spurs add David West, continue to dominate free agency

Are you kidding me, San Antonio?

The Spurs continued their offseason of perfection on Monday when the team had agreed to terms with veteran power forward David West.

West decided not to opt into the final year of his contract with the Indiana Pacers, a deal that would have brought him $12 million, so he could sign with a contender and go after a ring.

He decided to sign with the San Antonio Spurs, who have amassed a nightmarish legion of zombie monsters who are here to destroy the NBA.

The Spurs brought back Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili this offseason, signed Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green to extensions, and brought in LaMarcus Aldridge, the offseason’s most coveted free agent.

West will join this team and add toughness, rebounding, and the ability to hit a 15-footer over and over again. He’ll do this usually with the second team, where he and Manu Ginobili will operate. I repeat: The Spurs will get to run David West and Manu Ginobili with their second team.

How is this even fair?

If the Spurs don’t trade Patty Mills or Boris Diaw, they will have Mills, Diaw, West and Ginobili all coming off the bench. That is horrifying.

A lot of people will ask how on earth David West turned down $12 million to sign the veteran’s minimum, but looking at that top nine players, it’s easy to see why he might get excited at the chance to play basketball with that group.
