'Continental Obscura': Rock photographer hits the road
When it comes to rock photography, Ryan Russell is one of today's go-to pros. For more than a decade, he has been snapping Green Day, Blink-182, Death Cab for Cutie, My Chemical Romance and other big musical acts for major publications.
With his latest project, though, Ryan turns his camera lens away from celebrities and toward some breathtaking landmarks and hidden spots on America's back roads.
Ryan's new book, Continental Obscura, is a beautiful travelogue that showcases the route he took while moving from Birmingham, Ala., to Bellingham, Wash. Published by No Sleep Records, the book's one musical tie-in is pretty cool: the book comes with an exclusive 7-inch vinyl record featuring two rare and unreleased tracks from Manchester Orchestra and Minus the Bear.
The book, which went on sale today, already is out of stock on Amazon, but you should order straight from the source at nosleeprecords.com. (Deluxe packages and T-shirts also are available.) I'm including a few of my favorite images below:
