Lindsey Vonn gave Lewis Hamilton a kiss on the cheek after his British Grand Prix win

Social media went into a spiral on Sunday when Lindsey Vonn rushed over to congratulate Lewis Hamilton after his victory at the British Grand Prix. Vonn gave him an innocent kiss on the cheek after the race, but that was enough to spark a host of rumours about the two.

Hamilton has spoken publicly many times about his desire to keep his private life out of the spotlight, but in the week leading up to the race, he described how his recent split with singer Nicole Scherzinger has taken a toll on him. The two had been together for seven years.

According to The Daily Express:

“I don’t really know how I’ve done it [got over the break-up]. It has been wobbly. Things were very, very tough.”

For a man with a reputation for monosyllabic answers, Hamilton’s comments and eagerness to share were telling.

He is on the brink of joining the pantheon of greats; a third world title this year will equal that of his idol, the late Ayrton Senna. Those in the know suggest five or more are within his grasp, so the weight of such a split is put into perspective.

“I understand the opportunity ahead of me,” said Hamilton. “I was just determined not to let it [the split] get in the way of what I’m trying to do. I just did everything I could to stay on it. It has not been easy but I’m grateful that I’ve stayed on course.”
