New Saturday Night Live featured player Jon Rudnitsky is a bit of an unknown.

He's not a mainstream comedian and NBC didn't offer much information about him in their sparse press release about his casting on Monday. However, a deep dive into his Twitter feed reveals some shockingly sexist and racist old tweets.

Rudnitsky jokes about stars like Miley Cyrus and Beyonce being the targets of "gangbang" sex, describes a gay man treating the Oscar statuette as a sex toy and uses demeaning language to describe women, including referring to one of the animated characters from the hit movie Frozen as a "bitch."

Several of Rudnitsky's Vines also have surfaced showing him mocking Mexicans and making fun of a topless woman.

Sudden stardom often leads to enhanced scrutiny, a lesson that Daily Show successor Trevor Noah learned earlier this year when some of his offensive jokes from a few years ago resurfaced.

In a GQ interview from July, Noah said looking back at his "stupid" old tweets makes him cringe.

"You show me half my jokes from even two years ago, three years ago — I hate them." he said. "Because you see, like, a young version of yourself. You’re like, Why would you say that? You idiot! That makes no sense. Or, That’s just stupid. Or, Ahh, I can’t believe I said that about a woman. You should not like what you did back then, because that shows that you’ve grown. If you’re still doing it, that’s a scarier place to be. So that’s a great thing for me. When I get a chance to look back and go: I was an idiot.”

USA TODAY has reached out to NBC for comment.
