Meet Rupee, an adopted dog from India who was rescued from a garbage dump and became the first dog to scale a part of Mount Everest. The trip up Everest was the first time the eight-month-old dog touched snow, according to The Hindu. Rupee made it all the way to Everest base camp, one of the many checkpoints during an ascent of the mountain, 5,364 meters above sea level. Rupee’s journey included many weather delays, and a yak attack.

Via The Hindu:

“After eight-and-a-half days, facing snow delays, rainstorms, mudslides and a yak attack en route, Rupee and Lefson reached the Base Camp, before a galloping three-and-a-half-days back down.

The team summited Base Camp on October 26 and a pair of embroidered prayer flags were tied, “with the wish that the Gods above will bestow a home on all the homeless dogs below.”
