At the most secure and secretive prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, the most popular figures among the world's most notorious terrorism suspects are the world's kinkiest characters: Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey.

For anyone in solitary confinement, they are the protagonists of the erotic Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, the most popular library books among the "high-value detainees" at Camp Seven, Rep. Jim Moran, a Virginia Democrat, toldThe Huffington Post.

"They've read the entire series in English, but we were willing to translate it," Moran said after returning from a congressional tour of Camp Seven on the U.S. Navy base in Cuba. "I guess there's not much going on, these guys are going nowhere, so what the hell."

What the hell, indeed; Guantanamo officials have said that erotic content is censored before books or magazines circulate.

Camp Seven, which is off-limits to journalists, has been compared to a super-max federal prison. The Pentagon releases no details about the facility or the exact number of prisoners.

There are believed to be 15 or 16 high-value detainees, including Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the purported planner of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Pentagon officials apparently did not reveal whether he was among the high-value readers of the romance novels by E.L. James featuring handcuffs, bondage, discipline, sadomasochism and submission.

"We don't discuss our high-value detainees except in the most generic terms. Further, we do not discuss the assertions made by members of Congress," a prison camp spokesman said.

The Fifty Shades series has sold more than 70 million copies worldwide. The movie is set for release in August 2014.

Joining Moran on the tour last week were three fellow Virginians: Sen. Tim Kaine, a Democrat, and Reps. Frank Wolf, a Republican, and Gerry Connolly, a Democrat. They were accompanied by the Pentagon's chief of detainee policy.

Although the news media are barred from Camp Seven, a Reuters reporter visited the lending library that provide books, magazines and movies for the 166 prisoners still at the base's several camps.

Among the offerings: Star Trek novels, Agatha Christie mysteries, stress-reduction workbooks, the Greek classic The Odyssey, and The Hunger Games, the book and the movie.
