CES 2014: Michael Bay's awkward Samsung cameo

Movie director Michael Bay speaks at the Samsung press event at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center for the 2014 International CES in Las Vegas.

It was supposed to be a presentation starring Hollywood film director Michael Bay promoting Samsung's line of curved television sets. But the appearance turned awkward after a teleprompter snafu resulted in Bay abruptly leaving the stage.

The cameo at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas happened during Samsung's press briefing. Bay popped on stage to break down Samsung's curved Ultra HD TVs.

During a live Q&A with a Samsung executive, Bay begins to answer a question before growing flustered. "The type fell off. Sorry. I'll just wing this," Bay says. After the exec asks Bay how the curved screens will impact viewers watching his movies, Bay excuses himself.

According to a blog post filed after the event, Bay said he cut the appearance short after losing his place on the prompter. "I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP's intro line and then the teleprompter got lost," writes Bay. "Then the prompter went up and down – then I walked off. I guess live shows aren't my thing."
