Before I had my daughter, I wasn't familiar with Sandra Boynton. But now? I read at least one of her books every single day.

Boynton is a superstar in the baby world, having written and illustrated more than 50 books and recorded several albums for kids. In September she released Frog Trouble, a book and album of country-tinged tunes featuring vocals from such cool cats as Kacey Musgraves, Fountains of Wayne, Dwight Yoakam, Alison Krauss and Mark Lanegan (from Screaming Trees and Queens of the Stone Age).

Today I'm thrilled to premiere Boynton's animated video for one of the tracks from Frog Trouble, When Pigs Fly. The song is sung by Ryan Adams, and Boynton tells me it marked a turning point in the making of the record:

This is a song about waiting, and hope, and joy. This is how it unfolded: I had hit a sustained difficult patch in trying to put the recording sessions together. The whole project just wouldn't move forward, and it started to seem truly impossible that it would ever come together.
I got up one morning, looked at my daunting "Try Again" list, and blurted out, "I should just write a song called When Pigs Fly." I did, and Mike Ford wrote a breathtaking guitar part, and we made a demo, all in one day. Four weeks later, we recorded in Los Angeles with the great Ryan Adams. And everything changed.

Frog Trouble is on sale now, and trust me when I say your favorite small people will enjoy it, as will their parents. (Another personal recommendation: Her kid-friendly apps are great, too.) Learn more about Boynton at sandraboynton.com.
