LOS ANGELES — Don't be surprised if you send a nasty Tweet to Jason Biggs and hear back from him. The actor, best known for his roles in the American Pie movies and his current Netflix series, Orange is the New Black, enjoys taking on the "haters," as he told us in a recent interview at his publicist's office.

PROVOCATIVE TWEETS

"I tweet things people might call provocative or controversial, and guilty as charged on all fronts. That is by design. That for me is the fun of Twitter. I have a darker side to my sense of humor, and I always have. Twitter has given me an opportunity to sort of show that side.

"I enjoy ... playing with the haters. They're funny. Most of their comments are not founded in anything real. Most people hate just to hate. With Twitter they know they can get to you. ... If I feel there is a hater that makes a comment that I can easily burn, I will retweet their comment with my comeback. Think twice before you send me a hate tweet because it will become a thing."

Still, he says: "My tweets are meant to entertain. ... The love far outnumbers the hate."

LIVE TWEETING TV SHOWS

His Twitter stream includes some not-suitable-for work live-tweeting of shows like the Bachelor and the Bachelorette, which he likes to mock.

"I am looking for every opportunity to make fun of it. It's not very hard to find those opportunities with the Bachelor or Bachelorette. They pretty much write the jokes for me. I just have to type them into my iPad."

NETFLIX AT HOME

He has the service connected to a big flat-screen TV via a Sony PS3 gaming console at home, and watches on an iPad at other times. He has "binge" viewed series like Netflix's House of Cards and Arrested Development, as well as PBS's Downton Abbey. "I love having that option. I'm in charge of my viewing habits."

FAVORITE APPS

Baby Bump (free; Apple, Android). With wife Jenny Mollen pregnant, Baby Bump keeps track of "the development of our son." The app offers tips: "What day you're at, what the bump should look like — today it's an avocado, tomorrow it's a lemon. It doesn't turn into an actual avocado — they mean the size."

Stitcher (free; Apple, Android). The aggregation app houses some 18,000 podcasts for listening on smartphones and tablets. Biggs uses it on his iPad to listen to podcasts from comedians, including Kevin Pollak and Adam Carolla.

Wallpaper* City Guides (free, plus issue purchase; Apple). The app edition of the popular design-centric magazine is "very hip, very cool. They've created a book series just on the travel for different cities around the world and now they are apps. The last one I got was for Sao Paulo."

CityTransit NYC subway map (free, Apple). "I have it because you don't want to be the guy that's going to the map. If you're a tourist, fine. Not if you're me. Now, you just pull up your phone, look at the thing."

Live ATC ($2.99; Apple, Android). "I'm what you call an AV (aviation) geek." The app offers live air-traffic control. "Usually, I'm listening while I'm on the plane. You can hear the different radio frequencies and communications between towers and planes. Love that."
