Tim Tebow became a national superstar under then-Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer, and Meyer believes the overwhelming attention Tebow receives has limited his chances with NFL franchises. Tebow signed with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this month, but his contract includes no guaranteed money.

During an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show, Meyer said that Tebow’s “only problem” is that he creates so much conversation.

“He’s a winner. He took a team that was a mess and put them in the playoffs and almost made the Super Bowl, and then the whole New York Jets thing was not good for all involved…. The problem with Tim, and this is the only problem, he creates so much conversation and distraction that I think that spooks some teams…. I know I’ve talked to many of the coaches involved and one thing every coach wants is lack of distraction so they can focus on their team. All of a sudden when ESPN has live people watching practice and every time you wake up there’s “Tim Tebow this, Tebow this, Tebow this,” and you’re talking about a backup quarterback, that did wear on people.”

Meyer also said he can’t yet announce who will be the starting quarterback for the Buckeyes this fall, but believes that Braxton Miller is staying in Columbus.

“We can’t name one today. Cardale [Jones] went through spring practice, Braxton, we’re getting him healthy, and J.T. we’re getting him healthy, and J.T. did a lot of work as well. So we have three viable guys.

Are they all staying? I heard there’s a possibility of Braxton transferring.

That surfaced in January and I asked him and he said ‘absolutely not.’ Obviously young people, anyone’s allowed to change their mind. I have not heard that… so I would say Braxton’s staying. I don’t go by hearsay, I just talk to the people involved, and he seems to be extremely happy and excited for 2015 as a Buckeye.”
