Tech tools for ultimate April Fools' pranks

The website Mail a Spud lets customers send a potato, complete with address and stamps.

Leave the whoopie cushions at home this April Fools' Day because there are more websites than ever that provide hilarious ways to prank your friends — and frenemies. We're talking way beyond tossing toilet paper around your BFF's front yard, putting Vaseline on the toilet seat, and filling donuts with mayonnaise (oldies but goodies), these web services actually do the dirty work for you. All you have to do is order online and wait for a good laugh. Just remember, it's all in good fun, right? Right?

All That Glitters...

If you've ever made sparkly crafts with kids, or if you were ever a fan of '90s glitter makeup, you know that the stuff not only goes everywhere but it sticks to you with a tacky vengeance. That's why when Ship Your Enemies Glitter launched a couple months ago it was a viral sensation. It's so simple yet so brilliant and definitely some kind of evil.

They do just what the name claims. For $10, they'll ship your enemy, BFF or rival a glitter bomb that will explode everywhere when they open it. It's fun for everyone but them, unless for some reason they open the glitter bomb at a '90s party in which case it might be totally appropriate. You can also just DIY this little prank for the cost of the glitter, envelope, and stamp.

Fun fact: apparently if you want to ship a potato, all you have to do is slap some stamps on it. Why would you want to send a potato? I'm not really sure. It's not funny enough to warrant an LOL, but it's definitely not an inconvenience or in anyway as annoying as glitter. It's just kind of strange. So if you're looking for a "Say what?" kind of reaction to befuddle your unsuspecting recipient with something that's not in any way offensive, Mail A Spud may be just the ticket. Again, this is one you can DIY too.

If contagious craft supplies and spuds aren't your style, and you're looking for a way to more subtly prank someone, try taking a screenshot of their phone's home screen — icons and all — and setting it as their phone background so when they try to tap to open an app, nothing happens!

Um… Awkward

This is anyone's worst NSFW worst nightmare. SexyPranky will mail someone an envelope or box with pictures of sex toys on the outside of it to make your recipient, their office mates and the mail man all feel pretty awkward. Hopefully you're in the office too so you can see their reaction live.

When your recipient opens the box, they'll find a message from you, hopefully saying that it was all a prank. Or you can leave it anonymous and keep the illusion up for as long as your prankster self sees fit. Prices start at $9.

If you've found yourself without a planned prank come April 1, just leave it to The Onion.

While your office mate is away, install Fartscroll to their browser so with every scroll, their computer will toot. If you want to just prank the world, you can install Fartscroll on your own website so anyone who visits will get to experience the joy of fart noises. Let's face it, farts are funny at just about any age, amiright?!

Hi-Tech Hi-Jinx

Another way to get a "Say what?" reaction from your next victim is to turn everything on their computer screen upside down. I'm not sure why this function exists at all, but apparently, Buzzfeed found out that you can do it. On a PC, hit CTRL + ALT + down arrow on a PC and on a Mac, open System Preferences and click Display while holding CTRL + Option. Then you'll get an option to flip the computer display and insanity ensues.

Going on the Cat-tack

Your best friend is going into their morning meeting and all of a sudden their phone starts dinging every minute. They ignore it at first, but then check it because it must be an emergency. It's not though. It's an anonymous cat fact set up by you to be sent whenever you want. If your friend loves cats, they may even enjoy Cat Facts (free on Android).

Whether you're the pranker, prankee or both, may you find yourself a good laugh come April Fools' Day. And if you're a more gullible person, be on the lookout because tech companies love to pull Internet gags too. I've already heard of a top video camera monitoring company launching a new "unicorn detection tool." If you hear about a new deal or feature that sounds too good, silly or weird to be true, it probably is. Be sure to share your favorite pranks in the comments section below. Play nicely out there, folks!
