Cards Against Humanity nets $70k for 'nothing' on Black Friday

Cards Against Humanity game.

Score one for truth in advertising.

Cards Against Humanity, which bills itself as "A party game for horrible people," issued a Black Friday challenge on its website: Money for nothing.

Surprisingly, or perhaps not, given Card's history of charitable giving (it claims $4 million since 2012), the company collected more than 11,000 donations, most in $5 installments. One particularly generous, or gullible mark, ponied up $100.

"In the end, we made a windfall profit of $71,145," Cards announced on its website Saturday.

And, with a bit of snark, company officials revealed where the loot went.

"There's been a lot of speculation about how we would spend the money from Black Friday," it proclaimed. "And we're happy to announce that this time, we kept it all."

Which is where they, like many advertisers, began to stretch the truth.

While the list of booty on its website includes Christmas-list like swag – Ray-Ban RB3025 Aviator sunglasses ($112) and Yamazaki 18-year-old single-malt whiskey ($365) – there are a host of charities that purportedly benefited as well.

Among the charities that received donations: the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill ($803); Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, whose Colorado Springs facility was attacked by a gunman Friday who killed four people there ($2,522); and the International Wolf Center ($1,971).
