For the Record's week in review: Valentine's, Galentine's and Presidents

Happy Saturday, For the Record peeps! We know it's a big weekend for celebrating love and for ladies celebrating ladies, but here at Team FTR, we're all about celebrating the presidents. A belated happy birthday to Abe/Bae Lincoln and a very early happy birthday to the pride of Mount Vernon, George Washington. Heck, we'll even give a shoutout to the president-to-be, whoever that may be. Maybe we are feeling the love after all.

Look, polls can sometimes be right

"New Hampshire is not filled with a bunch of losers."

Well, would ya look at that. Donald Trump trumped and Bernie Sanders burned in New Hampshire on Tuesday. The victories were declared fairly early on, and they showed us a few things: for all the jokes we make, the Donald is a serious contender and #FeelTheBern is real. Nice guys don't always finish last; sometimes, they come in secondJeb(!) needs to drop the exclamation point. And as much as we and Marco Rubio wish it were otherwise, debates matter. With that, we're two states down, 48 (plus D.C. and the territories) to go (much to Hillary's relief). Next up: South Carolina's Republican primary and Nevada's Democratic caucus, a week from today.

Candidate dropout, no inauguration day for you

Gilmore, pictured with all of his supporters.

The Granite State's primary resulted in a few more campaign deaths. Let us bid adieu to Chris Christie and his New Jersey real talk that couldn't quite turn around his campaign,  to Carly Fiorina and her business acumen (though this goodbye only stands until we can afford to hire her as a speaker). We were most saddened that the longest of the longshots, Jim Gilmore, threw in the towel on Friday after realizing that maybe the combined support of 145 people in two states couldn't quite justify continuing on. Here's to the end of #Gilmentum (how long do we have to wait before that hashtag applies to the Gilmore Girls comeback, do you think?). With the whittling down of the candidate field, we're taking Christie's words to heart: "It's both the magic and the mystery of politics that you never quite know which is going to happen, even when you think you do."

Another #DemDebate

Is it just us, or is Clinton's jacket Bond villain-esque?

With the first two primary contests behind them, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders took to the debate stage in Milwaukee on Thursday. With Hill in search of debate redemption and Bern looking to prove that he's got long-term viability, the pair sparred over everything from Social Security to Libya. There was some fudging the truth, as always. What we do know: It was quite the night for at least one former secretary of State. Whether Henry Kissinger cares at all is another thing entirely.

And another #GOPDebate

Because you love spending your Saturdays watching debates, a reminder that there's another one tonight on CBS News. The only way to know who's going to keep Rubio in check without Christie around and to see if Ben Carson can make his cues is to tune in. Or you could always look for our summary of what happened on Monday morning. Your pick.

With that, we're off to celebrate the weekend. Happy Saturday!
