Memphis QB Paxton Lynch passes for seven TDs in one half

The most efficient quarterbacks in college football dream of having 10% of their pass completions going for touchdowns. Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield, the FBS pass efficiency leader, is doing it, and the second-most efficient passer Brandon Doughy of Western Kentucky is close.

But it would be hard to imagine what Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch did in the first half Saturday against SMU. Lynch completed nine passes, and seven of them went for touchdowns. That means 78% of his completions were for points. It means 50% of his 14 attempts led to points. And he led the Tigers to a 56-0 halftime margin.

Lynch's seven touchdowns in one half tie the FBS record. Almost as impressive, those seven passes went to seven different receivers.

Backup quarterback Clay Holgorsen replaced Lynch to start the second half.
