Maple Leafs' Nazem Kadri fined for throat-slash gesture

AP

NEW YORK (AP) — The NHL has fined Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri $5,000 for making a throat-slashing gesture at Calgary Flames defenseman Mark Giordano earlier in the week.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri was fined for giving a throat-slashing sign to Calgary's Mark Giordano.

Kadri was fined the maximum allowable under the league's collective bargaining agreement for making the inappropriate gesture.

Maple Leafs general manager Lou Lamoriello said during a radio appearance Wednesday that the club had spoken to Kadri about the gesture.

The gesture came after Giordano's hard, open-ice hit on Kadri in the first period on Tuesday.

Toronto visits the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night.
