Kitty's abnormal legs don't hold him back

Mouse was born with a congenital deformity but it hasn't held him back.

SALT LAKE CITY – As any cat owner knows all too well, felines can be energetic and crazy. This cat, named Mouse, is no different. Even with his abnormally short front legs.

Mouse, along with his mom and siblings, were brought to the Best Friends Kitten Nursery in Salt Lake City as strays. Staff soon realized that Mouse was not only a little wild, he had a congenital deformity: His front legs were not developing normally. So, Mouse was placed into foster care.

Mouse was healthy, strong and at ease around others, so he was put up for adoption. Lana and Curtis Crichton quickly fell in love with him and took Mouse home with them, where Mouse got a new life and a new name: Smalls.

Best Friends Animal Society runs the nation's largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals, adoption centers and spay and neuter facilities in Los Angeles and Salt Lake City.
