It's makeover time for a beloved Disney ship

The Super Bowl will be shown in several locations on Disney Cruise Line ships.

It's official: The Disney Wonder is about to get a makeover.

Disney Cruise Line president Karl Holz revealed plans for the overhaul earlier this month at a press event at Disney World near Orlando.

Holz was mum on details of the makeover, but it's expected to be on the scale of an overhaul of the Disney Magic in 2013 that significantly transformed deck-top areas, restaurants, children's clubs and more.

The 1,754-passenger Disney Magic is a sister ship to Disney Wonder. Unveiled in 1998 and 1999, respectively, they were Disney's first two ships and are much-beloved by Disney fans. The company now has four ships, with two more on order for delivery in 2021 and 2023.

Disney to expand cruise line with two more ships

The changes to Disney Magic in 2013 included the removal of the ship's iconic Mickey Pool. It was replaced by a new watery fun zone for kids. The ship also received a thrilling new water slide.

Other notable changes to Disney Magic included a major reworking of its grand Lobby Atrium — a signature feature — and the complete re-theming of its adults-only entertainment zone (scroll through the carousel at the top of this page for a look inside the revamped Disney Magic).

The makeover of the Disney Wonder will take place at the same dry dock facility in Cadiz, Spain where the Disney Magic was overhauled.
