Trump's old tweet: 'No one remembers who comes in second'

Donald Trump came in second in the Republican Iowa caucus on Monday. And while he expressed confidence that he will go on to win the GOP nomination, an old tweet may indicate he would have thought otherwise only a couple years ago.

Back in December 2013, Trump tweeted a quote from the late professional golfer Walter Hagen: "No one remembers who comes in second."

That tweet resurfaced Monday night after the caucus results showed that Trump, so long believed to be a solid front-runner in the race for the GOP nomination, had come in second to Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.

The Twittersphere had much to say about the quote.

Speaking from Iowa on Monday, Trump said, "We will go on to win the Republican nomination, and we will go on to beat Hillary or Bernie or whoever the hell they throw up there... We finished second, and I have to say I am just honored."
