New Nissan Titan XD pickup named Truck of Texas

In its redesign for 2016, Nissan tried to make its new Titan extra tough looking.

One of the most closely watched contests in the truck world has chosen a pickup for its top award that isn't even on sale yet.

The Texas Auto Writers Association reached to one of the newest trucks, the 2016 Nissan Titan XD, with its diesel engine. It was the named to the top award, the Truck of Texas, which happens to the nation's top state for truck buying.

The all-new iteration of the truck doesn't go on sale until December.

Nissan Titan was helped by its new 5-liter Cummins V-8 turbo-diesel, which it has promised would make it one of the most powerful. Besides the top trophy, the engine alone won the best powertrain award.

A Titan XD Pro-4X won in the best off-road category and the Tital XD Paltinum Reserve won for best luxury pickup. Nissan also won for another vehicle, the Murano Platinum in the midsize crossover category.

"The Nissan Titan with the Cummins Diesel engine really impressed TAWA members at this year's event," says Michael Marrs, the group's president. "There's no doubt that innovative powertrains, impressive designs and new technologies paid off for the Titan."

The 69 members of the association were challenged to test 88 vehicles this year at a ranch outside San Antonio.
