Video: Gatorade's new Peyton Manning commercial is the best thing you'll watch today

Commercials, without them, there would be no NFL.

We, as fans, get it. Commercials are ever present, they seem to invade the game, to divide and conquer our precious 60 minutes of game time every Sunday. Sometimes — OK, most of the time — they get annoying. They’re loud, overbearing, grunt-filled truck and/or beer ads which teach us what it means to be a man in today’s society.

And, from time to time, a company will decide to pay tribute to a player; this, we see coming, too. Sometimes the tribute ads will play well, other times they’re a sad attempt at pitching a product while using a player’s name, reputation and fame as the selling point.

But, this time, with these seven — yes, seven — ads, Gatorade got it right. Completely, 100 percent, tear-jerkingly right.

In these “Dear Peyton” ads which will run during the NFL Draft tonight, Gatorade got together former coaches — Tony Dungy, David Cutcliffe — former teammates — Brandon Stokley, Jeff Saturday, Demaryius Thomas — and even Chris Mortensen to share the letters which Manning penned himself to everyone.

Yes, it’s been well documented that Manning sends letters to people he’s connected with in life, even Pam Frenzel, the mother of Tyler Frenzel who was treated in Manning’s hospital; it’s incredibly touching for a world famous athlete to even consider reaching out like this, but Peyton wrote hundreds of these letters throughout his career.

Now, thanks to Gatorade, we have a chance to hear the words that Manning wrote to these people who are near and dear to his heart. Get the tissues ready, because you’re going to need them. Even if you are a beer-drinking, truck-driving manly man.
