Brian Cherkas captured an amazing sunset on a beautiful fall evening at Po'olenalena Beach in Maui, Hawaii.

"Persistence and an eye for the shot is key here."

Sandra Millsap had been watching this nest for several weeks. She crawled on her stomach to get closer and closer for a photo of a killdeer who stood her ground and would not leave her nest.

"I kept waiting for the famous 'dance of distraction' that they normally perform, but it never came."
