The Supreme Court struck down bans against gay marriage nationwide Friday, extending a basic right to so many Americans who had been shut out of the opportunity for legal recognition of life-long partnerships. Some conservative presidential candidates felt so threatened by the 5-4 decision, according to Bill Maher, that they thought it was mandatory for the entire country to develop same-sex relationships.
