Storm forces minor-league teams to play rare tripleheader

The Potomac Nationals, the minor league affiliate of the Washington Nationals,  and the Lynchburg Hillcats, affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, will be part of history on Wednesday. A storm pushed back Tuesday’s doubleheader between the Nationals and the Hillcats, and because the two teams won’t face each other until the second half of the season, a tripleheader has been scheduled.

The first game will pick up where it left off in the fifth inning and be played through nine innings. Then, the next two will be seven innings each. That’s set to be (at least) 19 good innings of baseball.

In the major leagues, per Baseball-Reference.com, the last time a tripleheader happened was in 1920.
