Planned Parenthood attack leaves three dead, nine injured

An alleged shooter remains in custody Saturday, a day after he barricaded himself inside a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colo., and went on a shooting spree. The suspect, Robert Lewis Dear, was arrested Friday night, hours after a shooting at the clinic killed one police officer and two civilians, officials said. The dead officer was identified as 44-year-old Garrett Swasey of the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs police department; he had been assisting Colorado Springs police in the incident. The names of the two civilians have not yet been released. Nine other people, including five officers, also were injured in the shooting.

Small Business Saturday booms nationwide

Local businesses are ready for the sixth annual Small Business Saturday to jumpstart their holiday sales. Last year, 1 out of every 4 Americans shopped at small businesses on Small Business Saturday, and it was the highest sales day of the year for independent bookstores. Last year, more than 3,000 local groups hosted Small Business Saturday events encouraging conscious consumers to shop small.

Extra GOP on TV this weekend

Viewers in all of Iowa's TV markets will get an extra dose of political ads as NBC offers up nearly an hour in free airtime to Republicans Jim Gilmore, Lindsey Graham, John Kasich and Mike Huckabee. The candidates all asked for equal airtime after Donald Trump's appearance on Saturday Night Live earlier this month. Federal law requires broadcast stations give equal time to qualified political candidates — whether they're selling ad space or, as in NBC's case, giving a candidate program airtime. Trump received 12 minutes and 5 seconds during his stint as SNL host on Nov. 7.

Prince Harry plays polo for his African charity

Prince Harry is back in Africa on behalf of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, with a jam-packed schedule as he visits Lesotho and South Africa. This weekend, he will play in the Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup, at Val de Vie in Cape Town to raise money for Sentebale, his African children's charity he co-founded in 2006 with pal Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in memory of their mothers, Queen Mamohato and Princess Diana. The charity is aimed at helping orphans with HIV/AIDs.

Pope undertakes most dangerous part of trip

Pope Francis' three-nation African tour continues Sunday, when he travels to his final destination — the Central African Republic. It's the most difficult — and dangerous — part of the pontiff's trip. The nation descended into bloodshed after a 2013 coup unleashed a wave of violence, pitting Christian militias against mostly Muslim rebels. It remains remains a major security risk today, and Francis' trip there will mark the first time a pope has traveled into an active armed conflict.
