Carli Lloyd for the $10 bill?

U.S. Soccer has a suggestion for the plan to put a woman on the $10 bill: Why not Carli Lloyd and Hope Solo, two of the brightest stars of the Women's World Cup-winning team?

"We've got an idea for a new $10 & $1 @federal reserve How about the best Women's Player and Goalkeeper in the World," the team tweeted after the U.S. defeated Japan 5-2 Sunday night to win the World Cup.

The tweet was accompanied by images of Lloyd — the midfielder who won the golden ball as the tournament's best player and silver boot as the second-best scorer — as well as Solo, the goalkeeper who won the golden glove award — gazing out from depictions of U.S. currency.

The Department of the Treasury in June announced that a woman would appear on the $10 bill starting in 2020, and sought suggestions for who should be given the honor.

"We're going to spend a lot of time this summer listening to people," Treasury Secretary Jack Lew had said as he sought public input as to which female historical figure should appear on U.S. paper currency — the first time a woman will grace the nation's legal tender in 119 years.

A decision is expected as early as this fall.

However, it will take almost five years for the new bill to get into circulation. That's how long it takes to complete the intricate planning for a redesign that incorporates new anti-counterfeiting measures and tactile features for the blind.

Fear not for Alexander Hamilton, the first Treasury secretary who's been on the $10 bill since 1928. He'll be on the new bills, either on the reverse side or in a separate series of bills.

Speculation on the women candidates so far has focused on civil rights and freedom movement activist Rosa Parks and abolitionist Harriet Tubman.
