'Me Before You' trailer boosts book sales

Sam Claflin and Emilia Clarke in 'Me Before You,' an upcoming movie adaptation of Jojo Moyes' best seller.

Here’s a look at what’s new on USA TODAY’s Best-Selling Books list…

Go Jojo: Talk about the power of a movie trailer. Jojo Moyes’ 2012 novel Me Before You (Penguin) zooms to No. 3 (up from No. 141 last week) thanks to the release of the trailer for the film version, due in theaters on June 3.  (The full best-seller list will publish on Thursday.)

Moyes’ unlikely love story, about a young caretaker in England who brings joy (for a while) to a paralyzed young man from a wealthy family, previously peaked at No. 56 on July 31, 2014. It’s spent 100 weeks in the top 150.

Trailer reveal: Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin in 'Me Before You'

The movie stars Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) as caretaker Louisa Clark, and Sam Claflin as wheelchair-bound Will Traynor. Moyes wrote the screenplay. The trailer was released both online and in movie theaters.

In response to "reader demand," Moyes wrote a sequel to Me Before You. After You (spoiler alert), about Lou’s life after Will, landed at No. 4 last October and spent eight weeks on the list. This week After You returns to the top 150, at No. 71. (USA TODAY gave the sequel just 2 out of 4 stars, saying, “There’s just enough Moyes magic to keep utter dreariness at bay.”)

A paperback movie tie-in edition of Me Before You will be published on April 26.

'Brotherhood in Death' by J.D. Robb

Queen of the list: A new week, a new No. 1. Last week it was James Patterson landing in the top spot with NYPD Red 4 (co-written with Marshall Karp), Patterson’s 25th book to debut at No. 1. This week it’s J.D. Robb with Brotherhood in Death (Berkley), the sixth time Robb has landed in the top spot.

Well, it’s actually the 31st time, if you consider that Robb is a pseudonym for Nora Roberts. Roberts has had 25 titles written under her own name land at No. 1 (same as Patterson).

Brotherhood is the 42nd installment in Robb’s In Death series, set in the near future. In the new book, police Lt. Eve Dallas investigates a case involving the disappearance of a powerful man and a family fight over pricey Manhattan real estate.

The next in the series, Apprentice in Death, goes on sale on Sept. 6.
