So far, 2015 is looking like a good year for music.

Nielsen Music's 2015 U.S. mid-year report, released Thursday, shows a 14% increase in music consumption over the first six months of last year.

What's driving the increase? For one thing, on-demand streaming, which nearly doubled year over year, rising 92%.

Also, vinyl sales are up 38%, comprising nearly nine percent of all physical sales.

Then there's Taylor Swift, whose 1989 is far and away the year's top-selling album, having moved 1.328 million units in the first six months of the year. Last year didn't see its first million-seller until November — and that happened to be 1989 as well.

Swift has 2015's top-selling CD and vinyl LP, and only Drake's If You're Reading This, It's Too Late has outsold it digitally.

Seven albums have sold more than 600,000 units so far this year, compared to just four at the same time last year.

While digital album sales basically stayed even, digital track sales fell 10% from 2014 to 2015. Physical albums have fallen, too, led by an 18% drop at mass merchants like WalMart.
