Russell Wilson, Seahawks agree to four-year, $87.6 million extension

The Seattle Seahawks aren’t letting Russell Wilson go anywhere.

Russell Wilson has led the Seattle Seahawks to two Super Bowls and one title in his first three seasons.

The team struck a new deal with its franchise quarterback hours before a self-imposed deadline Friday morning, when the sides agreed to the parameters of a four-year extension.

A person with knowledge of negotiations told USA TODAY Sports the sides were still working on language to complete the deal, which is worth $87.6 million with $60 million in guarantees. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because it wasn’t complete.

The structure of the contract wasn’t immediately known.

Assuming it’s tacked on to the one year and $1.542 million left on Wilson’s rookie deal, the “new money” average of $21.9 million through 2019 would rank second among quarterbacks behind only Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers ($22 million). The four-year extension Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger signed in March had an average of $21.85 million.
