Here's how much it would actually cost to save Matt Damon in all his movies

Matt Damon stars in 'The Martian.'

Matt Damon gets into to trouble a lot.

Not actually Matt Damon the actor, but all the characters he plays tend to get lost/stranded/have all their brothers die in WWII. Just look at the evidence. His big movie this year, The Martian, is literally about a global effort to rescue the character he plays from being stranded on Mars. Last year he was rescued from a distant planet in Interstellar (although it didn't exactly work out for him). And he was the whole "Private Ryan" part of Saving Private Ryan.

The movies give us a general idea of the physical and emotional costs of Saving Matt Damon, but what about the cost in actual money? Fear not, one intrepid Quora user has made a rough calculation (and even done all that inflation math, to boot). Here's how much he guesses that it has cost various fictional worlds to Save Matt Damon:

My estimates, costs are in 2015 currency

Courage Under Fire (Gulf War 1 helicopter rescue): $300k
Saving Private Ryan (WW2 Europe search party): $100k
Titan AE (Earth evacuation spaceship): $200B
Syriana (Middle East private security return flight): $50k
Green Zone (US Army transport from Middle East): $50k
Elysium (Space station security deployment and damages): $100m
Interstellar (Interstellar spaceship): $500B
The Martian (Mars mission): $200B

TOTAL: $900B plus change

The user also had this helpful note on the post:

His movie gross takings so far are about $2.7B, which is about 40% of the cheapest proposed trip to Mars, as proposed by the Mars One team.

So basically Matt Damon is in no way earning his keep. Great job, bro. Maybe try saving yourself next time. It's working out for Leo.
