"The Walking Dead" will return to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios

The Walking Dead is coming back to life for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios. It will not be pretty.

The theme park announced Thursday that it will feature the most intense, zombie-tastic moments from season 5 of the critically-acclaimed AMC program in the annual horror event taking place at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort. The carnage begins on Sept. 18.

"I couldn't be more delighted to continue and expand The Walking Dead universe...than by having fans experience some of the most harrowing and suspenseful moments of our show," Greg Nicotero, executive producer and special effects makeup supervisor for The Walking Dead, said in a release Thursday. "Halloween Horror Nights is the gold standard to which all other Halloween-themed events try to emulate, so to bring authentic walkers to this event...is the ultimate thrill."

Following in the footsteps of the The Walking Dead cast, Horror Nights guests will begin their journey at the Terminus safe-haven compound "where an unspeakable hunger has consumed the demented souls of those dwelling within," according to the release. Guests will also witness "the horror of victims besieged by the living dead, and step onto the loading dock of the Del Arno Food warehouse to face hordes of 'W' walkers."

This year, Universal Studios Hollywood will introduce the original "The Walking Dead: Wolves Not Far" maze — which it promises is the "biggest, longest, most gruesome maze ever built at the West Coast destination...with twice as many, never-before-seen walkers."

At Universal Orlando Resort, the maze will be titled "The Walking Dead: The Living and the Dead" and will place visitors in a famed scene from Season 5 — the flooded food bank scene where "they'll be surrounded by hundreds of gallons of water as flesh-hungry walkers attack," according to the release.

'The Walking Dead' will be part of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios.
